Mar Elias camp

He and his pre-assigned partner were the “line-leaders” to begin the day. The rule was that these two boys had to slowly walk to each destination, and the following pairs must never go in front them – keeping things in a well-ordered line, no matter what the excitement. This one boy especially thought this responsibility was quite an honor - and took his job very serious. After a while, I chose two girls to be the line-leaders for the rest of the outing. And boy, you should have seen the scowl he gave me - followed by a pout – complete with the obligatory “arm-fold.” How dare I demote him - and especially to two girls! I asked Amena to translate that he did a fantastic job, but we switch the responsibilities throughout the journey to keep things fair. It didn’t help much. He continued his pout and scowl. I slowly began staring him in the eyes – then pinched his elbow while giving him a, “Grrrr!” He laughed. He tried again with a phony scowl that was broken by a grin he didn’t want to let escape. So, I pinched him again – and another one escaped. As we departed from Dunkin’ Donuts, with chocolate frosting all over his face, and another spare donut left in his bag, he didn’t seemed too bothered to be marching behind two girls.
